Is Using a Travel Agent Still Worth It in 2026?

In 2026 you can book almost anything yourself. Here’s when a travel agent still saves you time, stress, and second-guessing, especially for families and groups.

You can book almost anything online in 2026. So is a travel agent still worth it?

For a lot of families and groups I work with, the answer is yes. Not because they can’t click “buy,” but because they don’t want the trip to become another full-time job.

At Simply Travel Co., I plan so you can simply travel. Here’s how I think about it.

What changed (and what didn’t)

What’s changed is access. Flights, hotels, tickets, and cruises are easier to find than they used to be. Comparison tools are everywhere.

What didn’t change is the hard part: fitting the pieces together for real people. Kids’ energy. School calendars. A reunion with six different opinions. A multi-stop trip that has to make sense on the ground. A cruise where the line, itinerary, and cabin actually match how your family likes to travel.

Information is easy. A calm plan is not.

Where DIY usually costs you time

DIY isn’t free. It costs evenings, second-guessing, and the mental load of being the person who “figured it out.”

Common friction I see:

  • Too many options, not enough clarity on what fits your crew

  • Lodging or cabin choices that look good online but feel wrong in real life

  • Group trips where one person becomes the unpaid coordinator

  • “We’ll just wing the details” that turns into stress on vacation

If you’re already maxed out at work and at home, that friction adds up fast.

What a good agent actually does

A good agent isn’t a brochure. We’re a planner who did the homework with your trip in mind.

With Simply Travel Co., that looks like:

  • Listening first. Who’s going, what kind of trip you want, and what would make it feel looked after

  • Building a plan with honest tradeoffs (what’s worth it vs. what you can skip)

  • Handling the moving pieces so you’re not juggling ten portals alone

  • Being the one place to ask when something changes

You still decide. We carry the details.

When hiring help is the smarter move

An agent is especially worth it when:

  • The trip has a lot of moving parts (theme parks and resorts, a cruise, a multi-stop itinerary, or mixed ages)

  • You’re planning for a group. Family reunion, friends, or church crew, and you need one planner for everyone

  • You want peace of mind more than you want to spend another weekend researching

  • You’ve done DIY before and don’t want to carry that load again

This isn’t about finding the absolute lowest click-price. It’s about a trip that fits, and a planning process that doesn’t wear you out before you leave.

A simple way to decide

Ask yourself: Do I want to be the project manager of this vacation, or do I want to show up as the parent, partner, or friend?

If you want help carrying the plan, send a message. Tell us who’s traveling and the dates (or season) you’re eyeing. We’ll map a clean next step.

We plan. You simply travel.
